Hamline's women's track/field team won five events and recorded several second and third place finishes to edge out Macalester and win the Hamster Invite b y a single point on the latter's track, Feb. 3.
Abigail Van Goethem had a pair of triumphs in the Long Jump and Triple Jump to lead the way for the Pipers, who also got firsts from
Gabby Koel (Shot Put),
Gabrielle Brown (60 Hurdles) and
Briana Berninghaus (200 Meters).
Van Goethem, a freshman, went 17-4 in the Long Jump. Teammate
Dani Zwiefelhofer was next at 16-11 1/4. The same pair went 1-2 in the Triple Jump with Van Goethem leaping 35-3 3/4, two feet ahead of Zwiefelhofer. Brown's winning time in the 60 Hurdles was 9.32 seconds with Van Goethem next at 9.40. Berninhaus, also a freshman, won a thrilling race with teammate
Izzy Shafer. Her time of 26.70 was less than half a second ahead of her teammate. Koel continued to burnish her reputation as one fo the top throwers in the league with a 39-9 3/4 Shot Put effort.
HU also got seconds from
Kristy Dellwo in the 400,
Alyssa Nash in the 800 and
Holly Hankins in the 1000 Meter races. The 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relay teams were also second in their respective races.
Hamline competes again on February 11 at the annual Meet of the Hearts at Carleton College in Northfield.
