As it turned out, it was worth the wait. Cold weather pushed the Hamline Invite Track and Field meet back a day to Sunday, April 3.
Hamline used the extra day to its advantage with a solid performance by both its women's and men's teams in the nonscoring event.
Gabby Koel was the top women's finisher, winning the Discus, throwing 129-11. Kiana Verdugo came in fourth with a 118-02 effort.
The Piper runners had a strong day, too. Carolyn Saulsberry and Gabrielle Brown shone brightly. Saulsberry, a senior, finished third in the 100 Hurdles and fourth in the 100 Meters. Brown, a freshman was sixth in the Hudles and seventh in the 100 Meters. (Koel was ninth in the 100 Meters.)
Marissa Fiecke excelled, too, with a second place finish in the 400 Meters. Fiecke joined Saulsberry, Kristy Dellwo and Izzy Shafer for a second place effort in the 4 x 400 relay.
The men recorded a pair of wins with Joe Matheson taking the Pole Vault title with a 15-05 leap and Bakari Jackson topping the Triple Jump field (44-9 3/4). Isaac Krause was an impressive second in the 800 Meters (1:55/86) as did Anthony Tyler in the Discus (146-05). Chase Duwenhoegger was third in the Discus and led a 4-5-6-7 finish in the Shot Put. (Travis Jacobson, Mitchell Maday and Eric Dols followed.)
Robbie Stimson was third in the 3000 Steeplechase. The 4 x 400 quartet of Krause, Jacob Prouty, Clay Wimmer and Sam Yankey also finished third.
