It was a great day to run and throw for the Hamline men's track and field team. The Pipers won one event (Joe Matheson, Pole Vault) and had five second place finishes in a notable performance in the nonscoring event.
Matheson, a senior, tied his season high when he cleared the bar at 15-5. It was part of an impressive field display that saw Eric Dols claim second in the Shot Put (51-3 1/2) and third in the Hammer (163-11). Anthony Tyler was second in the Discus (146-11) sith Chase Duwenhoegger (4th, Shot Put) and Mitchell Maday (5th, Hammer) also recording top five efforts.Â
On the track, it was welcome back to Tom Larson (pictured). The senior has been hobbled with an injury that kept him out most of the indoor season. But he flashed his old form Sunday with a 22.88 clocking to finish second in the 200 Meters. The Pipers had a pair of 2-3 finishes in longer races. Sam Gatton was second (57.84) and Dylan Olson (59.45) was next in line in the 400 Hurdles. In the 5000 Meters, it was Ryan Peterson taking second (15:36.46) with Nathan Rock coming in next at 15:51.88. HU got fourth place efforts from Thane Widmer (400 Meters) and Nathaniel Jacobson (800 Meters).
