Tracksters Have Solid Outdoor Debut

The Hamline track and field teams made a successful initial venture into the great outdoors. Competing at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Collegiate Meet in Point Loma, California on Saturday, March 19, the Piper men placed third with 207 points and the women finished fifth with 184. 

Eric Dols had an impressive outdoor debut. the freshman was third in the Shot Put with a 51' 11 1/4" throw and claimed the same position in the Hammer (157'8). The Pipers also got top five efforts from Bakari Jackson (4th, Triple Jump, 44'10 3/4"), Isaac Krause (4th, 400 Meters, 49.87), Sam Gatton (pictured, 4th, 400 Hurdles, 46.84; 5th, High Jump, 5'9 1/4"), Ryan Peterson (4th, 1500 Meters, 4.06.78), Travis Jacobson (5th, Shot Put, 50'8 3/4") and Chase Duwenhoegger (5th, 146'7"). 

Carolyn Saulsberry exploded out of the box to lead the women with a trio of top three finishes. The Minneapolis, Minn. senior won the Triple Jump with a 35' 7 3/4 performance. She was second in the 100 Hurdles (14.7 seconds) and third in the Long Jump (17' 4 3/4"). Gabrielle Brown was second in the 100 Hurdles (15.3) and Marissa Fiecke took fifth in the 400 Meters (59.6).
