Carolyn Saulsberry ran and leapt like a kid at play Saturday at the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Meet Saturday at Macalester College. As a result, she ... and her teammates ... had a lot of joy.Â
Saulsberry won two events (Triple Jump, 100 Hurdles) as the Pipers banded together to finish sixth overall with 61 points. HU received strong field support fromÂ
Erin Urbanowicz andÂ
Jessica Putland, who finished 2-3 in the Hammer andÂ
Jerri Koltveit, who recorded a third place effort in the Discus.Â
Saulsberry, a junior, started her day with a tight win in the Hurdles, winning in 14.59 seconds. She then crossed the field and claimed the Triple Jump by a foot and a half, with a 38-9.50 effort, breaking her previous school record by 15 inches.Â
Sara Nester, a senior, came in seventh at 35-6. She capped a busy day by teaming with
Brianna Baker, Kristy Dellwo and
Izzy Shafer for an eighth place finish in the 4 x 800 relay.
Urbanowicz and Putland, who are both seniors, made the most of their final MIAC meet appearance. Urbanowicz unleashed a 167-03 effort, a foot and a half behind the leader. Putland was next at 156-08. Koltveit continued her excellent senior campaign with a 131-02 discus throw.Â
Other notable efforts included: the quartet of
Khadijah Pierce, Danielle Ziefelhofer, Mikayla Hensch and Shafer teaming up for a sixth place finish in the 4 x 100 Relay andÂ
Andrea Haus doggedly pursuing an eighth place landing in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.
