Men's Track Finishes Strong Second at MIAC TF Meet

The Piper men's track & field team had plenty reasons to smile Saturday. Hamline won three events and had 10 other top five finishes en route to strong second place finish with 138.5 points at the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Meet held at Macalester College. It was a 28.5 point improvement from last year's third place finish and marked the fourth time in six years that Hamline has finished second in this meet. 

Tom Larson won two individual events and teamed up to win a dramatic third in the 4 x 400 relay to lead the strong HU effort.

The Bloomington, MN junior sped by the field in the 100 Meters in 10.73 seconds, breaking his own school record by .01. He came back to take the 200 as well in 22.12. Later, he joined up with Jacob Pederson, Isaac Krause and Will Warmka to run the 4 x 400 in 3:17.95, edging out St. John's for first by less than a second. 

Krause and Warmka had their own individual moments in the sun. Krause was fifth in the 800 meters (1:55.04) and Warmka ended up in the same place in the 400 (49.99).

The Pipers had two impressive second place finishes Saturday. Jordan Steward went 44-04 (juat an inch and a half from first place) in the Triple Jump. Ryan Peterson splashed his way to a similar ending in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase (9:27.09). 

Eric Hanson was third (15.62) and Rex Gould (16.40) was seventh in the 110 Hurdles. 

The 4 x 100 and 4 x 800 relay teams came in third in their respective races. 

HU also had a major presence in the Shot Put. Chase Duwenhoegger led the way with a third place throw of 49-7 1/4. He was closely followed by Joey Grussing (48-1 1/4) in fourth place and Pierce Heston in fifth spot (47-3).
