The Hamline men's track and field team went toe-to-toe ... and then some with St. John's the season's first outdoor meet. The Pipers won seven events and had a pair of rare 1-2-3-4-5 finishes in recording 191 points in a four-way meet at Collegeville Saturday. HU finished just three points behind the Johnnies but well ahead of Concordia (156.5) and Martin Luther (72).Â
Tom Larson won a pair of events, sprinting to victory in the 100 (11.2) and the 200 Meters (22.85).
Isaac Krause led a parade of Pipers across the finish line in the 400, winning in 1:57.55. But he was closely followed by
Cole Konczal, Sam Jewson, Chris Lagergren and
Tyler Lerbakken for a real top five finish.
Derrick Mora, Jordan Lein, Freddia Galloway and Larson teamed up for a 4 x 100 Meter relay triumph (42.77).Â
In the field,
Chase Duwenhoegger edged out teammate
Joey Grussing in the Shot Put. Dowenhoegger, a freshman threw 48-2 3/4 to the senior Grussing's 46-5 1/4.
Anthony Tyler led the quintent of Pipers in the Discus, winning in 147-5. Grussing,Â
Pierce Heston, Travis Jacobson and Duwenhoegger followed in turn.Â
Mark Volker picked up where he left off in the indoor season, winning the Pole Vault with a 14-7 1/4 performance.Â
Joey Matheson was second at 14-1 1/4.Â
