Sky's The Limit For Volker

3/23/2014 8:58:00 PM

The only difference now is Mark Volker can see the sky instead of a ceiling. Otherwise, it's business as usual.

The junior picked up where he left off in the indoor season, winning the Pole Vault competition in Hamline's outdoor track and field opener -- the Ross and Sharon Irwin Meet at Nazarene Point Loma in California, March 22.

Volker vaulted 14'9" to take top honors. The Pipers had eight top five finishes, scoring 197 points to finish third in a 23-team field at the meet.

HU had five third place finishes. Tom Larson sped his way there with a 11.21 clocking in the 100 Meters. On the field side of things, Derrick Mora leapt 21`5.25 in the Long Jump; Jordan Steward did 44'0.5" in the Triple Jump and Anthony Tyler unleashed the Discus 143'10". The 4 x 100 Relay team of Larson, Mora, Freddie Galloway and DJ Weil ran 43.71.

The Pipers got fourth place efforts from Eric Hanson in the 110 Hurdles and the 4 x 400 Relay team. Will Warmka came in fifth in the 400 Meters (49.94).

Hamline is also making its name nationally as well. Six Pipers are in the Top 25, led by Volker (5th) and Steward (10th).
