In the final warmup before the next week's MIAC Indoor Meet, the Piper men's track team continued to burnish its field credentials.
Mark Volker, Travis Latzke and
Collin Dixson all won their events as Hamline finished second in the annual Macalester pre-Conference Meet. The Pipers also had four second place and three third place finishes en route to scoring 129.5 points, a scant six behind meet winner Gustavus Adolphus.
Volker continued his remarkable string of victories in the Pole Vault, taking his fifth title in a row with a 15-5 effort. It was not only his personal best but is tied for the best performance by a MIAC vaulter this winter.
Latzke went 22-3 feet in the Long Jump, the best performance by a MIAC athlete this winter. Dixson unloaded the Weight Throw 51-9 to take that competition.
Several other Pipers showed they are ready to be a major factor in next week's meet at St. John's.
Tom Larson (60 Meters),
Derrick Mora (200 Meters),
Jack Micholic (800 Meters),
Jordan Steward (High Jump) and the 4 x 400 Relay team of Latzke,
DJ Cline, Will Warmka and
DJ Weil finished second in their respective events.
Joey Grussing (Weight Throw, Shot Put),
Amani Lee (High Jump)
Freddie Galloway (200 Meters), Warmka (400 Meters) and
Rex Gould (60 Hurdles) had third places.
